Lanfranco Dettori MBE, well-known as Frankie Dettori, is an Italian horse racing jockey based in the United Kingdom.

Dettori moved to England as a 14-year-old to work as an apprentice with the racehorse trainer Luca Cumani.

In 1990, he became the first teenager since Lester Piggott to ride 100 winners in one season. His first win came at the age of 16 in Turin in November 1986, and his first victory in Britain was in June 1987.

Dettori’s most celebrated achievement was riding all seven winners on British Festival of racing Day at Ascot Racecourse in 1996.

He has since been British flat-racing champion jockey three times and was awarded an MBE in 2000.

Frankie Dettori has been married to Catherine Dettori since 1997 and together they share five children; Leo Dettori, Ella Dettori, Tallula Dettori, Rocco Dettori and Mia Dettori.

Frankie’s daughter, Ella Dettori is following his steps. He led her down to her first ever race at Glorious Goodwood’s Magnolia Cup in July 2021. Ella bolted home at speeds of up to 40mph in the race.

The Dettori family resides in Newmarket, Suffolk.
