Ruth Perry was a headteacher at Caversham Primary School in Reading who took her own life following an unreleased report which speculated that her school had a poor performance rating when authorities investigated it on November 15 and 16 last year.

Ruth Perry committed suicide while awaiting an Ofsted evaluation that gave her school the worst possible grade, according to her family. After learning that her school, Caversham Primary School in Reading, had been downgraded from Excellent to Inadequate, Ruth Perry, 53, committed herself in January.

The “worst day of her life,” according to her sister Julia Waters, was the day after inspectors visited the school on November 15 and 16 of last year.

Ruth was a wonderful person who will be remembered for her warmth, humor, self-assurance, vivacity, and compassion.
Ruth was a dedicated educator and administrator who genuinely cared about the success of her students and the satisfaction of the people who worked under her direction, as seen by the numerous tributes she received from the school and the greater Caversham community. Despite the many difficulties that come with being a Head of School, Ruth was content in her position at Caversham Primary.
