Kyle Freeland attended the University of Evansville and was selected by the Rockies in the eighth round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft.

In 2022, Freeland went 9-11 with a 4.63 ERA in 31 starts covering 174.2 innings, leading the majors in sacrifice flies allowed with nine and triples allowed with eight. Batters also had the highest on-base percentage against him (.342) of any MLB-qualified pitcher.
