She was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and attended Bishop Strachan School before moving to the United Kingdom to study acting in 1965.

On July 1, 1967, she received an Honours Diploma from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, which included speaking and singing honours (soprano).

Linda Thorson played Julia Wheaton Medina in the daytime drama One Life to Live from 1989 to 1992. In the sixth season of Star Trek: The Next Generation, she played female Cardassian starship commander Gul Ocett in the episode “The Chase” (1993).

Linda Thorson portrayed the villainous Rosemary King in the ITV series Emmerdale from 2006 to 2007.

In 1971, she co-starred in the London West End hit show No Sex Please, We’re British with Michael Crawford and Anthony Valentine, and she later played Titania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Regents Park Open Air Theatre.

Thorson appeared in Tracy Letts’ play August: Osage County, about a dysfunctional family in Oklahoma, in 2013. She was set to appear in Jon Robin Baitz’s play Other Desert Cities in 2014. Thorson produced The Goodbye Bird, a new stage play written by Colleen Murphy, in 2013.
