R. J. Hampton is an American professional basketball player for the Orlando Magic of the National Basketball Association. He played for the New Zealand Breakers of the National Basketball League (NBL) before declaring for the NBA draft.

He was a five-star recruit at Little Elm High School in Little Elm, Texas. He was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks with the number 24 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.
Hampton took home the gold medal with the 2017 FIBA Under-16 Americas Championship-winning American under-16 national team. He participated in five games, notching nine points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.6 assists.

R. J. Hampton was born to Markita Hampton and Roderick Hampton Sr. on February 7, 2001, in Dallas, Texas, in the United States. Roderick Hampton played at SMU in college basketball from 1987 to 1991. His grandfather, Richard Evans, served in the Vietnam War. He has a sibling named Ryan, thus he is not the only child in the family.
He won another gold medal with the national under-17 team at the 2018 FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup despite only being able to participate in two games due to a foot injury. Hampton was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks with the 24th overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.
