American criminal Mark David Chapman, born on May 10, 1955 in Fort Worth, Texas, shot John Lennon to death on December 8, 1980.

Chapman was raised in Decatur, Georgia, and as a teenager he became fixated on the Beatles, particularly John Lennon.

He converted to Christianity while still in high school, and following graduation, he worked for the YMCA and served as a counselor for Vietnamese refugees in Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. Chapman relocated to Hawaii in 1977, where he made an attempt on his life and was brought to the hospital.

Later on in the year, he started working there, initially in maintenance and later in the print shop.Chapman wed and started working as a security guard in 1979. The following year saw him become more erratic and murderous.

On May 10, 1955, Mark David Chapman was born in Fort Worth, Texas. His mother Diane was a nurse, while his father David Chapman served in the U.S. Air Force as a staff sergeant. Seven years later, Susan, his younger sister, was born.
Chapman claimed that as a child, he was constantly afraid of his father since, in his words, both his mother and he were subjected to physical abuse. Chapman started to have fantasies about being able to control an imaginary population of “little people” that resided behind the walls of his bedroom.
