Surinder Kaur Badal, 72, the wife of Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, passed away on Tuesday, May 2012, 2011 at PGI, Chandigarh, after 12 days of fighting for her life. Cancer of the throat plagued her.

When she was first treated at PGI on May 12, she was in a separate VIP room. She was moved to the Nehru Hospital’s critical care unit as her health worsened, where she stayed for almost 10 days until passing away at 2 o’clock in the afternoon.

On Wednesday, she will be cremated at Badal Village in the Muktsar District. According to a formal statement from PGI, Surinder Kaur passed away from natural causes following a protracted illness.
