Cogliano started out playing minor ice hockey for the City of Vaughan Hockey Association and the Vaughan Rangers in the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) before playing in the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL) with the AAA Vaughan Kings.

Andrew played his first NHL game on October 4, 2007, against the San Jose Sharks, recording one assist.

Andrew Cogliano scored his first NHL goal on October 8, 2007, against the Detroit Red Wings, beating All-Star goaltender Dominik Hašek.
