American track and field athlete Dawn Harper-Nelson, who excels in the 100-meter hurdles, was born on May 13, 1984.

In the same competition, she won the gold medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. She also won the silver medal at the Olympic Games in London in 2012 and the 2017 World Championships.
In the history of the 100-meter hurdle event, Harper is the first American to win gold at one Olympics and then medal in the next competition.

She is trained by Bob Kersee, the spouse of Jackie Joyner-Kersee, an Olympic medalist who hails from East St. Louis, Illinois, and has won six medals overall.

She is a part of the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame’s 2022 class.
Harper displayed great promise in the sport while still in high school by winning her first IHSA 2A state championship and setting a new state record in the 100-meter hurdles in her freshman year of competition (14.03).
In that same year, she also won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 42.70.
