Les Brown, a politician and a speaker was the third husband of Gladys Knight. Gladys Knight & the Pips joined the Motown Records family in 1966, despite the fact that they lacked a “sure hit” at the time.

Initially regarded as a second-tier talent by the label, they went on to achieve enormous success with multiple hit singles. Some of their best-known songs include “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” (1967), which was later made famous by Marvin Gaye, “Take Me in Your Arms and Love Me”, and others.

Gladys Knight and the Pips were the opening act for Diana Ross and The Supremes when they first arrived at Motown. Knight said in her memoirs that Ross dropped her from the tour because her passionate performance overwhelmed her. American politician and motivational speaker Leslie Calvin “Les” Brown was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 1977 to 1981. Along with his twin brother Wesley, he was born in the impoverished neighborhood of Liberty City in Miami, Florida.

Les Brown, who was raised by Mamie Brown, a 38-year-old single mother who worked as a cafeteria attendant and domestic helper, struggled with his self-esteem and confidence as a result of being classified as “educable mentally retarded” at school.

Brown frequently discusses in his lectures how his attempts to speak at a radio station first ended in failure when he made the decision to change his life. Les wasn’t offered a full-time opportunity until the afternoon DJ the day before experienced difficulties on-air.

He unsuccessfully ran for and was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives after leaving the radio station. After serving in the Ohio State Legislature, he switched to television and worked as a host for PBS.

He was the host of the talk show The Les Brown Show from September to November 1993. In addition, Brown hosted a daily syndicated radio show on California’s KFWB from 2011 to 2012.
