Joy McKean’s husband: Who is Slim Dusty? – Joy McKean’s spouse was the late Slim Dusty (born David Gordon Kirkpatrick), an Australian country music singer-songwriter, guitarist, and producer. Dusty and McKean were married from 1951 to 2003 when he died.

McKean was his wife and manager for over 50 years, and she was instrumental in his national success with the Slim Dusty Traveling Show. Dusty and McKean were an unbeatable team.

The pair’s musical collaboration resulted in 100 albums, with eight million CDs sold, and 45 Golden Guitars.

Dusty, who was born on June 13, 1927, was the first Australian to have a No. 1 international hit song with a version of Gordon Parsons’ “A Bar with No Beer.”

He was awarded 38 Golden Guitars and an Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) award.

He was recognized in the ARIA Hall of Fame and the Australian Roll of Honour.

In 2007, his domestic record sales in Australia reached seven million. Dusty was regarded as an Australian national treasure throughout his lifetime.

He sang “Waltzing Matilda,” a well-known Australian classic, at the closing ceremony of the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000.

Dusty died on September 19, 2003, at the age of 76, while working on his 106th album for EMI Records.
