Grillo belonged to the prestigious Class of 2011, along with Patrick Rodgers, Justin Thomas, and Jordan Spieth. Grillo turned down invitations to play American collegiate golf, despite the fact that those three stood out in college.

He completed the 2011 European Tour Q-School and has four successful but unsuccessful seasons abroad.
Grillo’s promotion was delayed when he missed a 3-footer to win the Puerto Rico Open and a PGA Tour card the previous year. Later on in the year, he won the Web.com Tour Championship, earning himself a card.

“Sometimes when I sit back and think about it, I’m like, ‘Wow, I took a huge risk,’ ” said Grillo, who is now ranked 35th in the Official World Golf Ranking and has made around $1.5 million this season.
“I understand that, but there is only one opportunity to play professionally in golf.”
