Israel’s Supreme Court of Israel Justice Jacob Turkel served from March 1935 to May 29, 2023. 38 years of Turkel’s career were spent as a judge, with ten of those years spent on the Israeli Supreme Court. He was selected to lead the Israeli Turkel Commission of Inquiry into the Gaza flotilla raid in June 2010.

Turkel began serving as a Regional Court judge in 1967 and presided over a number of tribunals, including the Shalom Court. He presided over the Beersheba District Court from 1980 to 1995 (with a two-year break to sit as a justice on the Supreme Court). From 1995 to 2005, Turkel presided over Israel’s Supreme Court.

Jacob Turkel cause of death

Israeli media reported that former judge Jacob Turkel of the High Court of Justice passed away on Monday at the age of 88. Sadly, there is no information on what caused his death.

Mordechai and Clara Turkel, who had come from Austria, gave birth to Turkel in Tel Aviv in 1935. He attended the Hebrew University of Jerusalem to study law.
