A defensive midfielder for Sporting CP of the Primeira Liga and the Uruguayan national team, Manuel Ugarte Ribeiro was born in Uruguay on April 11, 2001.

Ugarte committed to a five-year deal with Sporting CP of the same league on August 9, 2021, for a sum of €6.5 million for half of his economic rights.
On August 14th, he made his club debut, coming on for Joo Palhinha in the 92nd minute of a 2-1 Primeira Liga victory away to Braga.
On January 2, 2021, Ugarte opened Sporting’s 2-1 home victory over his previous team Famalico with his first goal for the team.

Ugarte was originally brought in to serve as Joo Palhinha’s backup, but after the latter sustained an injury, he started getting more and more playing time.
On December 3, when Benfica hosted rivals Porto at home and won 3-1, manager Rben Amorim gave Ugarte the opportunity to take Palhinha’s spot.
