Prior to becoming the chairman of the board of directors and CEO of SCOR SE in 2002, he was Vice-Chairman of MEDEF and CEO of AXA.
Throughout the last two decades, Kessler has been one of the most important personalities in the worldwide reinsurance sector.

He was president of the Rendez-Vous de Septembre, the preeminent annual reinsurance event in Monte Carlo, and oversaw the French Federation of Insurance Companies for two periods in the 1990s and early 2000s.
He had served on the boards of several big corporations, including BNP Paribas for two decades, and had been on the board of asset manager Invesco since 2002.
From 1993 until 2010, he was also a member of France’s Economic, Social, and Environmental Council.
Kessler was born on March 25, 1952, in Mulhouse, France, and died on June 9, 2023.
