He participated in 12 games and one start for Sporting’s first squad in the 1975–1976 campaign, which saw the Lisbon-based team finish fifth. After being freed, he participated in seven of the next eight seasons of the top division with C.F. Os Belenenses, Grupo Desportivo Riopele, Juventude de Évora, Unio de Leiria, Vitória de Setbal, and S.C. Farense, scoring 14 goals in 166 games played.
After playing primarily for his native C.F. Estrela da Amadora in the second and third tiers, Jesus retired in 1990 at the age of 36.
