Lance Franklin, better known as Buddy Franklin, was born on January 30, 1987. He now plays for the Sydney Swans in the Australian Football League (AFL). He has formerly represented the Hawthorn Football Club from 2005 and 2013. Franklin, who is regarded as the best forward of his generation and among the greatest players of all time, has kicked 1,059 goals, the fourth-most in VFL/AFL history.

He has also been his clubs’ top goalkicker 13 times (six times for Hawthorn and seven times for Sydney), and he has scored at least 50 goals in a season 13 times. Franklin is the most prolific goal kicker currently playing. Eight times (three at full forward and five at center half-forward), he has been chosen for the All-Australian team.

Why is Lance Franklin called Buddy?

Franklin’s family began referring to him as Buddy as a child to set him apart from his father, Lance Sr. Lance “Buddy” Franklin was raised in Dowerin, Washington, together with his sister Bianca, father Lance Sr., and mother Ursula, a Whadjuk-Noongar.

During his tenure at Hawthorn, Franklin won two premierships, four All-Australian selections, two Coleman Medals, and a Peter Crimmins Medal.
