What happened to Gilles Villeneuve?

Gilles Villeneuve was a Canadian racing driver who competed in Formula One in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Tragically, Villeneuve was involved in a fatal accident during qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix on May 8, 1982.

At the time, Villeneuve was driving for the Ferrari team and was attempting to set a quick lap time.
