Max Morath, a pioneer of public television and a prominent national advocate of ragtime music, passed away on Monday morning in Duluth. He was 96. After marrying his wife, Diane Skomars, in 1993, Morath relocated to the Northland and was residing at Aftenro Home in Duluth. No other information was immediately available regarding Morath’s passing, which Skomars confirmed in an email to the News Tribune.

In 1926, Max Morath was born in Colorado Springs. His mother, a pianist, instilled in him a passion of music, and throughout the 1950s, he honed his abilities as a performer and producer in a variety of settings in that well-known tourist destination. He developed ground-breaking shows as a result of his intense interest in the art and technology of radio and television.
