Desmond The outstanding Australian rugby league footballer John Hasler was born on February 16, 1961. His career has been diverse, and both as a professional rugby league player and coach, he has thrived. Throughout his playing career, Hasler exhibited his skills in a variety of positions, particularly as a halfback, lock, and hooker.

Hasler spent all of his formative years playing for the Penrith Panthers. He joined the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles, where he had a ton of success and came to understand his true calling.

Hasler won championships in 1987 and 1996 while playing for the Sea Eagles. He temporarily represented Hull F.C. in England before returning to Manly. As his playing career came to an end, Hasler joined the Western Suburbs Magpies.

He played for NSW City, New South Wales, in the State of Origin series and represented Australia on an international level.

Hasler began coaching in 2004 with the Manly Sea Eagles when his playing career came to an end. In the Premiership games in 2008 and 2011, he steered the team to victory.

Before returning to Manly in 2019, he later served as the head coach of the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs of the National Rugby League. Hasler abruptly lost his job as head coach after the conclusion of the 2022 campaign, which was an unexpected change of events.
