Kat Graham was given a part in The Vampire Diaries, the critically acclaimed supernatural drama series based on the same-titled book series, in March 2009. The portrayal of Bonnie Bennett, a teenage witch, proved to be her breakthrough performance.

The show premiered on September 10, 2009, gaining 4.91 million viewers and receiving praise from critics for its growth. The Vampire Diaries’ fourth season was renewed in May 2012. After Canadian actress Nina Dobrev left the series in 2015, Graham assumed the role of the female lead.
Graham won the 2011 Teen Choice Award for “Choice TV Female Scene Stealer” due to her outstanding work on the program.

In August 2010, The Hollywood Reporter stated that Graham has been cast in the dance drama Honey 2 from Universal Pictures. The film, a precursor to Honey from 2003, follows the story of a disturbed young woman who joins a dance squad in hopes of achieving her dream of becoming a dancer.
Honey 2’s limited theatrical release in a few countries made over $8 million in total. The film received mixed reviews from critics when it was released in North America on direct-to-DVD in June 2011, despite the praise for Graham’s performance and dance. In the same year, she also played the female lead in the dance-themed film Dance Fu.

Graham was born in Geneva, Switzerland, but was raised in Los Angeles, California. Her father Joseph is of Americo-Liberian origin, while her mother Natasha is Jewish (comes from a family from Poland and Russia).
