Ugochukwu was born in Rennes and enrolled in the renowned Rouge et Noir academy at the age of only eight. Onyekachi Apam, a former Nice and Nigerian footballer, is his nephew. Alongside Camavinga, Ugochukwu began his football career in the Rennes young teams as a defender.

He played twice more after making his professional debut in April 2021 against Dijon. Only three of Ugochukwu’s 12 outings in 2021–22 saw him get a start. In a 5-0 demolition of Saint-Etienne in late December, he scored his first goal as a senior.
Ugochukwu has also made three appearances in the Europa Conference League. In addition, Marcel Desailly, a legend in France, has been compared to Ugochukwu.
