Malcolm Deas cause of death: What happened to Malcolm Deas? – Malcolm Deas, an English historian who specialized in the study of Latin America in general and Colombia in particular has died. Deas was born on 24 April 1941 and died on 29 July 2023 at age 82. A cause of death was not disclosed.

Born on April 24, 1941, Deas was one of the key figures at the Latin American Centre in Oxford, an institution that was founded by Sir Raymond Carr in the 1960s.

Deas earned a fellowship at All Souls College and St Antony’s College after studying modern history at New College, Oxford. He retired in 2008 after nearly five decades of teaching at Oxford University.

He wrote extensively about the country’s history, both in scholarly journals and in popular magazines like The New Statesman, The Listener, The Spectator, The London Review of Books, and The Times.

In the early 1990s, he worked as an advisor to Colombian President César Gaviria, earning him the Cross of Boyacá and an OBE from the British government.

He was also a member of the Order of Andrés Bello (Venezuela) and the Orden de Mérito (Ecuador), and received an Honorary Doctorate from the Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá.

In 2008, Deas was made a citizen of Colombia.

Deas departs the world with a legacy of being a pioneer of Colombian historiography, not just in the Global North but even in Colombia itself.
