George Wilson (basketball) wife: Was George Wilson married? – George Wilson, the only Bearcat to win a national championship (1962) and Olympic gold medal (Tokyo, 1964) was very tight-lipped about his personal life so it is unknown if he was married. He could have been married but there is no information about his wife.

Born on May 9, 1942, Wilson attended Marshall High School in Chicago, Illinois, and led them to four straight appearances in the Chicago Public League, as well as to victory in the Illinois state championships in 1958 and 1960.

Despite offers from many colleges, Wilson opted for the University of Cincinnati primarily because of his admiration of Bearcats’ star Oscar Robertson.

As a junior in 1962–63, Wilson led the Bearcats with 11.2 rebounds per game, a .505 field goal percentage. and 1.4 blocked shots to go with 15.0 points per game.

He was named All-MVC due to his performances. He was also named second-team All-American by The Sporting News and Converse.

Wilson (team co-captain with Ron Bonham) led the Bearcats in rebounding (12.5 per game), field goal percentage (.535), and blocked shots (1.7 per game) in his senior season of 1963-64.

In a game against Dayton, he set a new Bearcats record with eight blocked shots. He also averaged 16.1 points per game and was awarded All-MVC for the second time. His outstanding performance was a major reason why the Bearcats finished the season 17-9.

Wilson was selected with the Cincinnati Royals’ territorial selection in the 1964 NBA draft.

He spent seven seasons in the NBA, averaging 5.4 points per game and 5.2 rebounds per game with the Royals, Chicago Bulls, Seattle SuperSonics (acquired via the 1967 NBA Expansion Draft), Phoenix Suns (acquired via the 1968 NBA Expansion Draft), Philadelphia 76ers, and Buffalo Braves (acquired via expansion draft prior to the 1970-71 season).

Wilson won a gold medal with the United States Olympic basketball team in the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

Wilson was named one of the 100 Legends of the IHSA Boys Basketball Tournament in 2006, a group of former players and coaches who were chosen to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the IHSA boys basketball tournament. Wilson was inducted into the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010.

Wilson died on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at the age of 81.
