Julian Ryerson has joined Borussia Dortmund from Bundesliga rivals Union Berlin. Ryerson was born in Lyngdal, Norway, and attended Viking Stavanger Academy. He made his professional debut in 2015 and went on to contribute to 10 goals in 68 domestic first-team games before joining Union on a three-year deal in the summer of 2018.

Ryerson is a right-back by trade, but he can also play on the opposite flank, as former Dortmund player Achraf Hakimi does. So far in 2022/23, he’s played more as an inverted left wing-back than on his natural side.
Dortmund announced the signing of Ryerson to replace the injured Thomas Meunier on January 17, 2023. His contract will expire in June 2026.
