Henry Dickerson was an  American professional basketball player and college basketball coach.

He died on August 10, 2023, at the age of 71. The Times Free Press previously reported that a broken hip he suffered in the spring of 2022 was followed by complications in the heart and lungs that led to Dickerson being placed on a ventilator.

Henry Dickerson was born in Beckley, West Virginia. He played in two NBA seasons, one with the Detroit Pistons and one with the Atlanta Hawks, as well as time with the Syracuse Centennials, where he averaged 27.1 points in the Eastern Basketball Association.

From 2004 until 2009, he was the head coach of the men’s basketball team at North Carolina Central University. In his first season at NCCU, the Eagles ended with a 16-12 overall record and progressed to the CIAA Tournament quarterfinals.

He guided his team to three NCAA tournament victories, including road victory against Catawba and Bowie State, as well as a home win over eventual NCAA Division II national champions Virginia Union.

Dickerson is a member of the Beckley Basketball Hall of Fame and Morris Harvey/Charleston Sports Hall of Fame. UC retired his No. 34 jersey in 2017.
