Jonson made his debut for Jamaica in 2022 in a friendly defeat to Catalonia.

He made his senior debut with Coventry City in 2010, becoming the youngest player to ever appear for the club at age 16.

Jonson has also played for Southend United, Bury, Oldham Athletic, Rotherham United, Milton Keynes Dons, Doncaster Rovers, and Bristol Rovers.

Jonson joined Peterborough United in 2012, and then made a comeback in 2020, on a four-year deal worth £1.4 million.

With Peterborough, he won the League One Player of the Year Award, and was named in the EFL League One Team of the Season.

In 2022, Jonson began serving as the club captain. So far he has made 135 appearances for Peterborough, scoring 70 goals.
