About Howard Hubbard

Howard Hubbard became a priest in 1963 and later ordained bishop of the Diocese of Albany by Pope Paul VI in 1977, a time when he was the youngest bishop in the country.

He served in that capacity until 2014.

Hubbard was a member of the Vatican Secretariat of non-Christians.

During his time as a Bishop, Hubbard supervised over a nearly $20 million renovation project at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

Hubbard was known to be a liberal soul with progressive views on drug addiction, the prison population, and other social justice issues.

Hubbard resigned officially in 2014, and was succeeded by Bishop Edward Scharfenberger.

In 2015, Hubbard suffered a heart attack and a stroke. He suffered another stroke in 2023, before he final passed on.
