In 2015, Dalton Papalii led the New Zealand national schoolboy rugby union team to victory over Australia. Papalii won the Blues Development Player of the Year twice, in 2016 and 2017, the same year in which he made his senior Auckland debut.

In 2018, Dalton Papalii made his Super Rugby debut against the Chiefs as a second-half replacement. Dalton Papalii plays as a flanker for Counties Manukau in the Mitre 10 Cup and the Blues in the Super Rugby competition.
