Sophia Vari: Meet Fernando Botero’s Third Wife

Colombian sculptor and figurative artist Fernando Botero Angulo was born in 1932. His distinctive aesthetic, known as “Boterismo,” has figures that are drawn with a lot of exaggerated volume and, depending on the painting, can either be seen as political humor or as political criticism.

His work is shown in well-known public spaces all around the world, making him one of the most well-known Latin American artists. He has primarily done his work from Paris during the past three decades.

Greek painter and sculptor Sophia Vari was Fernando Botero’s wife. Sophia was born in 1940 to Hungarian and Greek parents in Vari, close to Athens. Ileana is the name of her daughter.
