What is Daniel Khalifa accused of?

Daniel Abed Khalife is a former British Army soldier , who is on remand awaiting trial on terrorism charges.

At the time of his arrest in January 2023, he was working as a computer engineer with the Royal Corps of Signals.

He was charged with terror offences and charges relating to the Official Secrets Act, after he was accused of carrying out a hoax bomb threat at the Ministry of Defence’s Stafford military base, also known as Beacon Barracks.

According to court documents, he allegedly planted ‘three canisters with wires at RAF Stafford with the intent of inducing in another a belief that the said article was likely to explode or ignite and thus cause personal injury or property damage,’ in violation of section 51 of the Criminal Law Act 1977.

Khalife was additionally charged with eliciting or attempting to elicit information beneficial to a terrorist on 2 August 2021, as well as violating the Official Secrets Act by obtaining information valuable to an enemy between 1 May 2019 and 6 January 2022.

According to sources, Khalife allegedly attempted to pass on the material to a foreign power, thought to be Iran.

Khalife appeared in court on July 21 and pleaded not guilty to charges under the Official Secrets Act and the Terrorism Act. His trial is scheduled to commence on November 13, 2023.
