The head coach of the North Melbourne Football Club is Australian rules football coach and former player Alastair Thomas Clarkson (born April 27, 1968). From 2005 until 2021, he served as the head coach of the Australian Football League’s (AFL) Hawthorn Football Club, where he won four championships (in 2008, 2013, 2014, and 2015).

Clarkson, an AFL football player from the small Victorian town of Kaniva, spent nine seasons (1987–1995) for North Melbourne before playing two more (1996–1997) for Melbourne. He participated in 134 games overall, mostly in the midfield or on the half-forward flanks. After his playing career ended, Clarkson spent time working as an assistant coach at St. Kilda (1999) and as the head coach of VFL team Werribee (2000).
