Serrano began adding kicks to her training at the beginning of 2015 as she intensified her preparation for her MMA debut. She met Miesha Tate, Holly Holm, and Cristiane Justino while filming Fight Valley with her sister, and after learning about their affluent lifestyles, she came up with the idea.
People associated with MMA became interested in her after this, and she was approached and informed of the move’s possible financial rewards. When asked about the situation, Serrano stated that the lack of a Puerto Rican female competitor in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) at the time provided further impetus.
