Andoni Iraola made his debut in a cup final in 2009, losing 4-1 to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey at Mestalla in Valencia. Three years later, he was instrumental in Athletic Bilbao finishing second in both the domestic cup and the Europa League.

Despite failing to score in the league during the 2012-2013 season, Iraola was retained as the team’s first-choice right-back and appeared in 35 games. He did, however, score a goal in the UEFA Europa League playoff round against HJK Helsinki on August 24, 2012.
Iraola renewed his contract with Athletic Bilbao on December 4, 2013, committing to the club until June 30, 2015.

His colleague Aritz Aduriz offered him a penalty kick in his final league appearance for the club in May 2015 against Villarreal CF, which he denied, culminating in Aduriz taking the penalty and Iraola scoring from open play just four minutes later. He captained the team in their most recent encounter, a 3-1 loss against Barcelona in the 2015 Copa del Rey Final.
On June 16, 2015, at the age of 33, Iraola made his first move abroad, signing with Major League Soccer club New York City FC. On July 12, he made his debut, playing the entire match in a dramatic 4-4 tie against Toronto FC at Yankee Stadium. On November 17, 2016, Iraola announced his retirement from professional football.
