The Toyota Avalon is Toyota’s largest front-wheel drive sedan and serves as its flagship vehicle in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, China and the Middle East.

The Toyota Avalon was also produced in Australia from April 2000 until June 2005, when it was replaced in November 2006 by the Aurion.

The first production Avalon rolled off the TMMK assembly line in Georgetown, Kentucky, in September 1994, and subsequent generations have all been manufactured at the Kentucky location to date.

Toyota marketed the Avalon as a replacement for the Cressida, a model discontinued for the American market in 1992.

While the Cressida was an upper-level mid-size rear-wheel drive car with a straight-six engine, the Avalon is front-wheel drive, powered by a V6 engine.

In recent years, there has been considerable overlapping with its platform mates, the Camry V6 and the Lexus ES, although the third-generation Avalon was distinguished by offering extra legroom.

What will Toyota replace the Avalon with?

Toyota is ending production of the Avalon large sedan after the 2022 model year, drawing the curtain on its plus-sized Camry after nearly a 30-year run.

The news was first reported by Automotive News, which learned that Toyota had just informed suppliers of the move.

According to Carbuzz, the New Toyota Crown Crossover will replace the Toyota Avalon.

Another publication, bestcarweb, says the Toyota Crown Crossover may not arrive as a traditional sedan.

The Japanese publication bestcarweb has suggested that the 16th-generation Crown may spring a crossover derivative of sorts.

While it has fastback body styling, the render shows a raised ride height and chunky black wheel arch trim, as favored by consumers.
