The versatile back row, initially selected on the bench, suffered the injury just before kick-off. Earl’s right leg was promptly fitted with a knee brace, and he navigated the pre-match preparations with the aid of crutches, indicating the discomfort and uncertainty surrounding the injury.

The severity of Earl’s knee injury remains unknown, and the player will undergo a scan to assess the extent of the damage. Both Saracens and England head coach Steve Borthwick will be eager for a positive outcome, hoping the setback is not significant.

Saracens director of rugby, Mark McCall, expressed concern over Earl’s injury, stating, “Ben hurt his knee in the warm-up, and it’s too early for us to know how serious that’s going to be. We’ve lost him probably for a while.”

Saracens, who have faced a string of injuries this season, encountered further setbacks at The Stoop. Elliot Daly sustained a minor hamstring strain in the warm-up, while Alex Lozowski suffered knee damage just seconds into the London derby. The duo joins a growing list of sidelined players, including Callum Hunter-Hill, Nick Isiekwe, Theo McFarland, and the aforementioned Ben Earl.

Despite the disruptions, Saracens demonstrated resilience, securing six tries in a dominant victory that propelled them to third place in the Premiership table. McCall praised the adaptability of his players, especially those stepping into unfamiliar roles due to the injury challenges.

“We had the disruption, and we dealt with that really well. It was a really good win,” said McCall. “We’ve picked up a few injuries in the last couple of weeks. People are stepping up and playing out of position.”

Saracens, after losing their opening two matches, have rebounded with four consecutive victories. McCall highlighted the improvement in fundamentals and praised the team’s commitment to defensive efforts.

“We’ve had three good weeks now. The fundamentals which were poor at the start of the season have got better. Our maul was very effective here, and so was our defence,” noted McCall.

Harlequins boss Billy Millard acknowledged the defeat as a setback following their previous victory and emphasized the need to learn from the experience. Millard sees the upcoming game against Northampton as an opportunity to rebound and maintain consistency throughout the season.
