Bobbie Lee Nelson was born on January 1, 1931, in Abbott, Texas, the United States to parents Ira Doyle Nelson and Myrle Marie Greenhaw. Her parents separated when she was young and her mother moved to Portland, Oregon, soon after her brother Willie.
Bobbie Nelson’s father went ahead to remarry, leaving her and Willie to be raised by their paternal grandparents. Her brother, Willie Hugh Nelson is an iconic American musician, actor, and activist.
When she was just five years old, Bobbie Nelson was taught to play keyboards with a pump organ by her grandmother. She also started singing in school acts and in church gatherings with her brother.

Bobbie Nelson’s grandfather bought her a piano following her successful appearances at gospel conventions held in Hillsboro, Texas. She released her solo debut album, Audiobiography in 2008 and was a member of her brother’s band, Willie Nelson and Family.

When she was sixteen years old, Bobbie Nelson married his ex-husband Bud Fletcher, who formed his own band, The Texans. However, the band was disassembled in 1955 following her divorce from Bud Fletcher. The two are parents of three sons Randy, Michael, and Freddy.
Bobbie Nelson passed away on March 10, 2022, at the age of 91. She was inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame in 2017.
