Brad Houser: Co-founder of Edie Brickell & New Bohemians dies aged 62

Originally from Dallas, Texas, John Bradley Houser (September 7, 1960 – July 24, 2023) was an American musician who played bass guitar, baritone saxophone, and bass clarinet. He was a founding member of the group known as the New Bohemians, which eventually changed its name to Edie Brickell & New Bohemians. Along with fellow New Bohemian Matt Chamberlain, Mike Dillon, and Skerik, he co-founded the Seattle, Washington band Critters Buggin.

In a statement from 2006, he said, “In Austin, I perform with the Zydeco Blanco, The Summer Wardrobe, Colin Brooks, Steve Wedemeyer, Patrice Pike Band, and Steve Wedemeyer Band. In Austin, Texas, in 2008, he was spotted performing with BoomboxATX and Mingtones (Laura Scarborough). 2007 saw the release of Feel the Boombox, BoomboxATX’s debut album. Along with Reverend Guitars, Houser co-designed the “Brad Houser 5” bass guitar line.

Brad Houser, a well-known musician from Dallas who was a member of Edie Brickell & the New Bohemians, died on July 24 at the age of 62.

Unexpectedly, bassist, musician, and close friend Brad Houser passed away. He was taken off life support today at 4:44 PM in Austin, Texas.
