Wilson began his professional career in the Coventry City academy. On August 12, 2009, he made his first-team debut as a substitute in a 1-0 League Cup loss to Hartlepool United.

On March 16, 2010, he agreed to a professional contract that would keep him with the team for an additional season. In March 2010, Wilson became the first member of the Coventry City young team to get the national honor of apprentice of the month.
He was re-inducted into England’s team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup after a three-year hiatus.
