Carey Hannah Mulligan is an English actress who was born on May 28, 1985. In addition to being nominated for two Academy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, and a Tony Award, she has won a number of awards, including a British Academy Film Award.

At the Royal Court Theatre, Mulligan made her theatrical debut as a professional actor in Kevin Elyot’s play Forty Winks (2004). She made her acting debut in the 2005 Joe Wright romantic drama Pride & Prejudice as a supporting character.
She then went on to play a variety of roles on television, including those in the drama series Bleak House and the 2007 television movie Northanger Abbey. She also made a guest appearance in Doctor Who as Sally Sparrow. She made her Broadway debut in the 2008 production of Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull, for which she was nominated for a Drama Desk Award.
Mulligan was nominated for Never Let Me Go, Drive, Shame, The Great Gatsby, Inside Llewyn Davis, Skylight, Suffragette, Mudbound, Wildlife, and She Said in addition to winning the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Performance for An Education.

Since 2012, Mulligan has served as an ambassador for the Alzheimer’s Society, and since 2014, she has served as an ambassador for War Child. Since 2012, she has been wed to musician Marcus Mumford. They have two children.

Carey Stephen and Nano Mulligan welcomed Hannah into the world in London. Her father is an Irish-born hotel manager who was born in Liverpool. Her mother is a Welsh native who teaches at a university in Llandeilo.
In their twenties, her parents met while they were both employed at a hotel.
Mulligan’s father’s job as a hotel manager led the family to Germany when Mulligan was three years old. She and her brother went to the International School of Düsseldorf while they lived there. She returned to the UK with her family when she was eight years old. She attended the independent Surrey school Woldingham School as a teen.
