Charlie Adelson, 47, was convicted on November 6, 2014, of first-degree murder, conspiracy, and solicitation after an eight-day trial that included copious wiretaps and other surreptitiously recorded communications tying him in the murder.

In only three hours, the jury returned guilty verdicts. On the first-degree murder charge, he faced life in prison.
After hearing victim impact statements from Markel’s family, Leon Circuit Judge Stephen Everett handed down his punishment.
His punishment came less than 24 hours after his mother, Donna Adelson, pleaded not guilty to murdering Markel at her arraignment before Everett.
