Canadian film director, screenwriter, editor, and cinematographer Claude Fournier (July 23, 1931 – March 16, 2023) passed away. He is one of the founding members of Quebec cinema. He was Guy Fournier’s identical twin.

Claude Fournier started his career as a journalist before working as a news cameraman for Radio-Canada. In 1957, he started working for the National Film Board of Canada as a writer and director, and he contributed to early cinéma-vérité movies like Saint-Henri le cinq septembre and La lutte. He resigned from the Board in order to work with renowned documentary filmmakers Richard Leacock and D.A. Pennebaker in the United States. He later came back to Montreal in order to create his own production business, Rose Pictures, in 1963.
