Clint Bowyer, a former NASCAR driver who later became a Fox Sports pundit, was involved in a tragic car accident in Missouri in early June 2022 that killed a pedestrian.

Clint had left World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway in Illinois on June 5 following a NASCAR Cup Series race, and he was going westbound on U.S. 54 nearing Missouri 242 shortly before 9 p.m. when the accident occurred

Bowyer’s vehicle struck Mary Jane Simmons, 47, of Camdenton, Mo., who was walking on the ramp.

Bowyer hit the brakes after realising what had happened, according to a crash investigation by police in Lake Ozark, Mo. Simmons was pronounced dead at the spot after the former NASCAR driver dialled 911 and escorted first responders to the location.

Bowyer, according to officials, supplied a roadside sample with a blood alcohol level of.000 and displayed no signs of intoxication.

Simmons was under the influence of drugs, according to the official crash report, and detectives suspect a crystalline substance recovered in her belongings is methamphetamine.

On Thursday, June 16, Bowyer gave a statement to Fox4 about the accident, saying, “. My thoughts and prayers are with Ms Simmons’ family and loved ones. Please respect my family’s and my privacy as we go on at this tough time.”
