Connor Bedard received special recognition from Hockey Canada in March 2020, and in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft, he was chosen as the first overall pick by the Regina Pats, making him the first player to be granted exceptional status in the Western Hockey League (WHL).

Connor Bedard was then selected to play in the 2021 IIHF World U18 Championships, making him the East Division rookie of the year in the WHL. This accomplishment also earned him the Jim Piggott Memorial Trophy, which is given to the WHL’s top rookie each year.”

During the 2021-2022 season in the Western Hockey League (WHL), Connor Bedard became the youngest player to score 50 or more goals in a single season.

Connor Bedard had played minor hockey with West Vancouver Academy Prep in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League.

On April 18, 2022, Connor Bedard was named to the Canadian team for the IIHF World U18 Championships, the only player returning from the previous year’s championship team.
