Juan Manuel Merchan, an American judge and former prosecutor of Colombian descent, was born in 1962 or 1963. He presently holds the position of acting justice on the New York State Supreme Court.

Merchan started his work in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office in 1994 as an associate district attorney. He prosecuted financial fraud crimes and other cases in the office’s Trial Division and Investigative Division, respectively. He served as the Deputy Attorney General in Charge of the Nassau County Region for the New York State Attorney General’s office from 1999 to 2001, the Assistant Attorney General in Charge of Affirmative Litigation for the Nassau and Suffolk Counties from 2003 to 2006, and the Assistant Attorney General in Charge of the Nassau County Region from 2006 to the present (2003-2006).
