His coaching career began in 2008 with Park Hill South HS, and later went ahead to coach Pittsburgh, Arizona State, Sam Houston State, Alabama, Memphis, Georgia, and now, Oregon.
Lanning is so versatile that he can serve as a defensive backs coach, linebackers coach and wide receivers coach.
Lanning led his team to win the CFP National Championshop twice, in 2015 and 2021.
In 2021, Lanning became the 35th head coach at the University of Oregon, following the exit of Mario Cristobal.
