On March 3, 2023, legendary American musician David Perry Lindley passed away. Lindley was called to as a “maxi-instrumentalist” by Acoustic Guitar magazine and was well known for his extraordinary talent with a wide variety of instruments.

From 1966 through 1970, David Lindley was a founding member of the psychedelic band Kaleidoscope, which produced four albums during that time.
Lindley’s love of music began when he was a small child and was exposed to a variety of genres through his father’s enormous collection of 78 rpm records, including Korean folk music and Indian sitar music. At age three, he started playing the violin.
Later, in his early teens, he switched to the baritone ukulele, the banjo, and the fiddle. Lindley had already won five Topanga Banjo•Fiddle Contests by the time he was in his late teens.

Lindley immersed himself in the 1960s folk music scene, going to places like the Troubador and Ash Grove, and listening to a wide variety of music, including flamenco, Russian folk, and Indian sitar music. He discovered that radio stations were particularly receptive to various musical genres.

As a result of Lindley’s musical ability, he was hired as a session musician and played on the live albums and recordings of a wide range of artists, including Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Ry Cooder, Bonnie Raitt, Warren Zevon, Curtis Mayfield, Dolly Parton, James Taylor, David Crosby, Graham Nash, Terry Reid, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Toto, Rod Stewart, Joe Walsh, and Dan Fogelberg.
