Disk jockey, musician, and TV host Anthony Kenneth Blackburn was born in England on January 29, 1943. Prior to working for the BBC in the 1960s, he first rose to renown by hosting the BBC Light Programme on the illegal Radio Caroline and Radio London stations.

Having worked for the company on and off throughout his career, he was the first disc jockey to play on BBC Radio 1 when it originally began on September 30, 1967. Together with BBC Radio 2, BBC Local Radio, and the British Forces Broadcasting Service, he has also worked for Capital London and Classic Gold Digital. Also, he has experience singing. I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, a British reality television series, debuted in 2002, and Blackburn was its first winner.

Tony Blackburn married Debbie, a theatrical agent, as his second wife in June 1992. Simon, his son, and Victoria, his daughter, were both born in 1997. His two grandson are boys. The songs from his first Radio 1 breakfast show were replicated on BBC Radio 2 on September 30, 2017, and Blackburn later appeared with Nick Grimshaw, Mike Read, Simon Mayo, and Sara Cox for a special broadcast to commemorate the 50th anniversaries of the foundings of Radio 1 and Radio 2.
