Gibson started creating her own music before she became successful on the Billboard Hot 100. When she was fourteen years old, her demo tape found its way into the hands of a well-known radio host, who then gave it to an Atlantic Records executive. She was able to secure a development deal as a result, based on her original song “Only in My Dreams.”
She started a promotional tour in several cities around the country while expanding her songwriting catalog. She continued to attend studies at Calhoun High School during this time, eventually graduating with honors, and her mother continued to go with her on club dates.
