Dermot Fitzpatrick was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician.

He served as a Teachta Dála for the Dublin Central constituency from 1987 to 1992 and 2002 to 2007.

Fitzpatrick was a Senator from 1997 to 2002, after being Nominated by the Taoiseach.

He was born on April 12, 1940, in Dublin, Ireland.

Fitzpatrick graduated from Coláiste Mhuire, an Irish language secondary school in Dublin. He proceeded to University College Dublin and graduated with a degree in medicine.

Before he pursued politics, he worked as a family doctor.

Dermot Fitzpatrick Cause Of Death

According to Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Dermot died on March 23, 2022, at the age of 81. However, the cause of death was not disclosed.

“I am very sorry to learn of the very sad passing of Dermot Fitzpatrick,” said Mr. Martin.

“Dermot was a true gentleman with a wonderful attitude to life. As a GP and as a public representative, he looked after people right across the city without fear or favour”.

“He represented people with an unwavering passion and commitment, always seeking to improve their lives. Dermot was a highly effective public representative whose passion for his constituents and work was evident every time he spoke to, or met with, colleagues”, he added.

Dermot is survived by his wife Mary, and his children Senator Mary Fitzpatrick, Aindriu, Niamh, and Sinead.
